When the .NET generic extension was initially launched in 1985, together with the first domains on the Internet, it was planned to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure establishments. In view of the fact that there were no specific stipulations about the usage of the top-level extension, though, .NET domains were acquired and used for diverse purposes and by a lot of people. This TLD is a wonderful alternative to .COM, notably if the necessary domain with the latter domain extension is not free for registration.
